TRAIN DRIVER

Train drivers are responsible for transporting both passengers and freight. A Train Driver will be responsible for trains which may operate on local or national rail networks and they may also spend time maneuvering engines in sheds or yards.
You normally have to be at least 21 to work as a train driver on the national rail network. You will also need to pass medical checks, which will test your fitness levels, eyesight, colour vision and hearing. Companies also screen for drugs and alcohol.

Typically you would apply directly to a train operating company to become a train driver. Some employers may expect you to have GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) in English and maths, or equivalent qualifications.
